Notice to Genoa Township Residents and Participants

It is with deep regret that we announce that Genoa Charter Township will no longer be a contributing sponsor of SELCRA for the 2010 - 2011 fiscal year.

As a result of the loss of these significant sponsorship funds, and in order for SELCRA to maintain its financial viability and continue to provide the greater Southeastern Livingston County area with high quality recreational programs and activities, effective Tuesday, August, 17, 2010 participants who live within the Genoa Township area who enroll in SELCRA programs will now be asked to pay "out-of-district" enrollment rates.

Genoa Township has been a long standing supporter of SELCRA over many years, and we hope to see them rejoin our participation program in the near future.

History of SELCRA

For 25 years (1966-1991) recreation programs in the Brighton area were funded through Brighton Area Schools-Community Education.  As the State began to reduce funding for Adult Education across Michigan, it became necessary to seek alternative funding sources for other Community Education programs, including recreation.  In 1992, TheCity of Brighton, Brighton Township, Green Oak Township, Genoa Township and Brighton Area Schools joined together to create an Authority and the Southeastern Livingston County Recreation Authority (SELCRA) was formed.  In October of 2001, SELCRA incorporated under Act 321, Public Acts of Michigan, 2000.  This act provides for the establishment of recreation authorities and outlines their powers and duties.  In 2003 SELCRA became its own fiscal agent, operating independently from Brighton Area Schools.  In 2004, SELCRA purchased its first land, the Meijer Skatepark.  In 2005, SELCRA and Brighton Area Schools signed a Joint Use Agreement outlining the adminstrative relationship.  In 2006 SELCRA's Master Plan was approved by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
